Administering The Test

Most good standard tests include fairly detailed instructions for examiners or testing supervisors, usually in the form of separate manual

If the teacher is preparing his owned test, use the following outline:

1.Selecting the testing room.  Testing must be conducted in a quiet, well-lighted room located where there will be a minimum of outside noise and interference.

2.Checking materials and equipment

3. Reading test materials in Advance

Conducting the testing preliminaries
1.Seating the examinees
2.Calling the examination to order (rule of the game)
3.Distributing the test materials
4.Instructing examinees on filling out the answer sheet (tester explain how the answer sheet to be filled out)
5.Giving test directions (give clear, complete directions to the testee, read it aloud, answer testee’s questions about directions, paraphrase the direction, etc. (pg. 119))

Conducting the test
1.Beginning and timing the test
Tester must:
See that all examinees begin work together
Keep accurate time throughout the testing period
Stop the testees exactly on the schedulle

2.Proctoring the test
As soon as the actual test begin, proctor should walk quietly around the room checking to see the testees are making their answers in the prescribed manner
Throughout the testing period, the proctors should frequently walk about the room to make sure that the testees are not cheating
Proctors should move silently
Instances of cheating or other irregularities which proctors observe should be reported to the tester
It is the examiner responsibility to make decisions about the handling of serious irregularities.
In case of obvious cheating, it is the usual procedure to collect the examinee’s materials all at once and dismiss him/her
Any irregularities occurring during the test should be recorded in writing by the examiner
The notes may later prove extremely useful in interpreting the test result
Examiners are required to fill out a report from noting such irregularities and submit the form when the answer sheets are returned to the organization for scoring

3. Concluding the test
When the time is up, the proctor should stop the test
Proctors should check quickly to see that these directions have been followed by all the testees
Examinees should then be told to remain quietly in their seats until all the test materials are collected and counted
When the proctor is sure that he had a full set from each examinee, he may dismiss the group.
